About

Hi, I'm Laura K. Wise

—a writer, speaker, and content creator. As a freelancer for the last 12 years, I’ve built a life that I love—on my own terms—and I’m dedicated to helping women everywhere rethink work.

Consulting

I’m the founder of Content Wise Communications (CWC), a boutique communications agency that works with brands to build communication strategies and tell brand stories in a digital world. At CWC, we’re narrowly focused on:

  1. Positioning our clients to influence the market by developing clear, concise, and easily digestible brand messaging, communications, and brand activation strategies. Our strategies help our clients reach more consumers and ultimately make more money.

  2. Bridging the gap between corporate and the culture. Fortune 500s and Black communities. Goods and service providers and a community with $300 billion in buying power.

My work has supported some of the world’s largest brands by developing strategic D&I- and CSR-focused communication plans, successfully executing countless global impact initiatives.

Freelancing

I’m also the founder of The Black Female Freelance Network (The BFF Network), a community of Black women freelancers sharing tips, tools, resources, and stories—and most importantly, creating a hiring pipeline.

I’m committed to creating weekly content— via The BFF World Podcast and my YouTube Channel—to support Black women freelancers (and friends) on their journey to build profitable freelance businesses.

Education + Community

I earned a B.S. in Marketing from Hampton University and a Professional Degree in Visual Communications from The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) - Los Angeles.

I’m a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and was recently elected as Member Representative of the Freelancers Union. Freelancers Union is the largest and fast-growing organization representing the 56.7 million independent workers across the United States.

My Philosophy on Life

Throughout my life, I've been a fashion designer and stylist; a full-time volunteer; a missionary; a journalist who has covered stories in the U.S., Asia, and the Caribbean; an event planner; and a fundraiser. I’ve also lived in Texas, Virginia, California, the Philippines, New York, (and Texas again) in that order.

I love to write and I am an amateur photographer. I'm addicted to podcasts and self-development books. In my free time, I’m currently enjoying long rides on my bike and watching my vegetable garden grow day by day. When I'm not doing any of the above, I'm probably traveling or trying to book a trip.

I believe that we can create a better, more inclusive world through thoughtful partnership, I'm passionate about doing work that I love, and am striving to live my best life every day.
